Rob Burton established Burton Architecture out of a desire to raise the quality of the everyday built environment. His passion to improve everyday architecture is evident through idiosyncratic spaces, socially engaged communities and attention to detail. Burton Architecture is also committed to producing low impact buildings with healthy spaces for all.
Rob has designed and delivered projects from large urban master plans to small renovations. This includes all building types from residential, offices, schools, art galleries, hospitals and public art. Many of these projects have won prominent awards including the FX International Design Award for Best Public Space 2003 (with artist Alberto Duman for Sutton Walk London). The Westminster Academy (with AHMM) was shortlisted for the Stirling Prize 2008.
Rob has developed designs for some of Sydney’s most important residential urban developments and provides input for government agencies on state significant projects. He is also a Certified Passive House Designer. This enables either a one-off house or large scale community the ability to target zero carbon development. For more information on Passive House design refer to link here or contact Rob for further information. Burton Architecture is also a signatory of Australian Architects Declare Climate & Biodiversity Emergency. To understand what this commitment entails, please follow link here.
This breadth of experience Rob brings ensures a wealth of design and management skills that enable an ability for conceptual lateral thinking. Ultimately, this creates valuable and buildable outcomes.
He has been a frequent visiting architectural critic and tutor at Sydney University, UTS and the Bartlett in London where he graduated in 1994. Rob has held senior positions in many internationally recognised architectural practices including Allford Hall Monaghan Morris in London and BVN in Sydney where he was a Practice Director.
Rob naturally has a very inquisitive mind that will ensure the full potential of a brief or site. He harnesses a very sharp eye for detail and composition with an unprecedented ability to draw the best solutions from any challenge.
