About
Burton Architecture was established by Rob Burton in 2013. The practice is based in Sydney and carries out a diverse range of work at all scales.
We are interested in environmentally sensitive buildings, healthy spaces and socially engaging communities for all. We bring an inquisitive mind and sharp eye to draw the best solutions from any challenge.
The practice is deliberately small and nimble to ensure that Rob is intimately involved with the project through all stages. Rob’s wealth of design and management experience ensures an ability for conceptual lateral thinking. Ultimately, this creates valuable and buildable outcomes.
Rob arrived in Sydney from London in 2003. He has held senior positions in recognised international practices in both the UK and Sydney working on projects from small renovations, public buildings and large scale urban masterplans. Many of his projects have won prominent awards including being shortlisted for the Stirling Prize in 2008. He has been a frequent visiting architectural critic and tutor at Sydney University, UTS, UNSW and the Bartlett in London where he graduated in 1994. In 2019 he became a Certified Passive House Designer to help with the practices commitment to targeting net zero carbon development and tackling the climate and biodiversity emergency.
Burton Architecture respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live and work, the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.
